Marshall Howenstein was a West Lafayette music teacher and a long-time Kiwanis member. In his memory the Lafayette Kiwanis Club Foundation donates each year a monetary award and a plaque to an outstanding West Lafayette High School music student as selected by the school's music teachers.  This year's award went to Graham Bethal, a percussionist with the West Lafayette High School Band and the Lafayette Citizen's Band. He plans on attending Purdue in the fall with a major in Nuclear Engineering and with active participation in the Purdue Band.
